School Update

I still need to take photographs of our apartment to be able to show you all how beautiful it is.
But in the meantime I can give you an update on everything else!
Remember how I said I was applying to go back to school?
Well I have two colors in my future: Crimson and Gold.

I was accepted to the Morgridge College of Education for their nine month teacher certification program.  To get accepted you have to already have a Bachelors or higher in your field of choice, and of course apply, interview, take the Colorado PLACE Test, and the GRE or MAT.  So that was what I had been busy with all summer.  In addition I took two summer courses to supplement a few credits I may have been considered "short" on.  I have a B.A in Theatre Arts in Design and Technology.  DU does not have a theatre concentration for this program however.  Thankfully, I also minored in Visual Arts.  DU has accepted a lot of my theatre credits as being equivalent to art credits.  The only two that I couldn't substitute for were photography and ceramics.  So I took an online Digital Photography class...I guess it was about time I had some formal training?  And I took Ceramics at ACC with guest artist Maynard Tischler.  I really enjoyed ceramics and I would definitely like to get better at wheel throwing.

If any of you are ever planning on attending graduate school and have a choice of taking the GRE or the MAT, I highly recommend taking the MAT.   By the way, GRE stands for Graduate Records Examinations and the MAT stands for Miller Analogies Test.  Find out if the college you want to attend will accept MAT scores, and if they do- GO FOR IT!   If you are a literary nerd like myself, you will love the test! It takes 1 hour, and there are 120 questions. Twenty of the questions are throw-away testing questions, but all of the questions are actually just analogies...covering all content areas.
For example:
Independence : 1776 :: Emancipation : (a. 1783, b. 1863, c. 1876, d. 1920)
Answer: 1863
It is simple really if you know how to read analogies.

So I start orientation at DU on Thursday and classes start Monday!  Class is only two nights a week, with two days observations through the fall and winter quarters. In the Spring I'll be a student teacher! Yikes!
Thankfully I'm in the schools already so much it won't be too much of an adjustment.  (You remember, I work as a school photographer).  I also come in as a guest artist to teach painting to kids in the high schools.  I think I like the little tykes more than the big kiddos. We will see.
